It was a normal September afternoon for Senior Zykia Boyd, working her after school job at the Bonita Lakes Popeye's Restaurant. Suddenly, her manager exclaimed, "Who knows CPR?" A customer was choking and his wife was growing exponentially concerned. He began turning blue. Zykia, who is currently in her second year of Megan Sisson's Allied Health Sciences class, jumped into action and gave the customer the Heimlich Maneuver. She learned this procedure last year in Health Science I. It helps dislodge food from the tracheal area. The obstruction shot out, and the man was able to resume breathing normally. Although the experience left her shaky afterwards, Zykia is proud that she was able to help when it mattered most. And we are so proud of our student!
