Southeast has a new addition to its sports team lineup this year...volleyball! Schools are moving away from slow pitch softball and towards volleyball. This fast paced, action packed sport has been popular for decades, on beaches across America, at the State Games of Mississippi played here every summer, and elsewhere. The team of 21 players is lead by Basketball Coach Dana Buchanan and Math Instructor April Larkin. Assistant Coach Larkin says that the "girls are looking much better than when we first started. They are learning the rules of the game and learning to work as a team."
Sophomore Adriyana "Bree" Ruffin was looking for something to replace slow pitch in her routine and did not expect to like volleyball as much as she does. She has come to love the sport, as well as her teammates. She says that they are communicating much better and growing with one another.
The team has played three of its games already this season with no wins, but has its fourth opportunity tonight against county rivals Northeast Lauderdale. The Lady Tigers will play two games, at 5:00 and 6:00.
