Mr. Russell Keene
I was born and raised in the Vimville community. Both my parents were long time educators in Lauderdale County and Meridian Public Schools. I graduated from Northeast High School in 2000. I attended college at The University of West Alabama where I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science in Industrial Technology and a Master's in Educational Leadership. My first teaching experience was at McKeel Academy of Technology in Lakeland, Florida where I taught grades 9-12 technology. I later moved back to Meridian and joined the staff of Northeast Middle where I taught Computer Discovery and became Assistant Principal.
Lauderdale County School District is my home and very much a part of my life. I started working for the district when I was 16 years old. Over the years I have had all types of jobs and responsibilities. I started out working in the Technology Department installing computer networks and maintaining the telephone systems. I feel as if I have done just about it all from waxing the floors to driving a bus, teaching, lead teacher, assistant principal and now principal.
My community is very important to me. I am an active member of several organizations. I am currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library and serve on the Long Creek Water Board. I am also an active member of the Southeast Fire and Rescue Department.
I am married to Candice Keene who is the Clinic Director, physical therapist, and athletic trainer for ATI at The University of West Alabama. Candice and I met while we were both attending college and working at Livingston Fire Department. We are active members of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Meridian and live in the Vimville community with our many cats and dogs. In December of 2017 we were blessed with twins, Reagan and Chloe.
